Layne Reavely

Dear Friends and Family,

God has been so faithful to me over the last few years as I have pursued nursing school and worked in the Emergency Room. This season has deepened both my skills as a nurse and my walk with Jesus. I have found

myself increasingly drawn to Scripture and continually shaped by the ways God meets people in suffering, uncertainty, and healing.

Through much prayer and reflection about “what’s next, Lord?”, and after a very timely answer to prayer in the form of last-minute PTO approval, I am excited to share that I am preparing to embark on a two-week medical mission trip to Tanzania from June 4–15 with Exodus 17 and Compassion Connect.

On this trip, I will be joining a team of approximately 20 people—including physicians and nurses—to set up and run two temporary medical and dental clinics in Mwanza and Misungwi.

These individuals have limited or no access to such essential care, making this an impactful opportunity. Through community outreach ahead of time, we expect to see around 400–500 patients per day.

This aligns deeply with how I understand the ministry of Jesus. His work was always holistic—he did not separate spiritual care from physical need. He fed the hungry, healed the sick, and engaged people with compassion in

the middle of their suffering.

Each morning, the clinic will begin with a devotional time for patients present, and throughout the day we are encouraged to pray with patients. I recently read in Evangelism as Exiles by Elliot Clark that, “Nothing demonstrates gentleness and respect quite like praying for someone else in their presence.” Prayer becomes a way of honoring people, dignifying them, and opening

space for care that goes beyond what we can physically provide.

God cares deeply for the hurting, the lowly, the orphan, the widow, and the immigrant. He also cares for the nations and for the Gospel going to all peoples. I believe God is actively ransoming people from every tribe, language, people, and nation—and I want to be part of that great and unstoppable story of His global purposes.

I am looking forward to learning, growing, and being shaped by this experience in ways I cannot yet fully anticipate. I expect that I will return changed—not only in how I practice nursing and view western medicine, but also in how I see comfort, consumption, and daily life in the West. I anticipate I will have a more grounded appreciation for both abundance and need.

More than anything, I deeply covet your prayers that God would be glorified through this medical mission trip, that people would set their hope and joy in Christ and become connected to the small church there because of the care we provide. If you'd like to join me in prayer, please let me know, and I'd love to send you specific updates to guide your prayers.

I am also hoping to have a few financial partners who will come alongside me to help make this possible. The trip costs approximately $4,500, so any donation no matter the size will make a difference. A tax deductible way to give a one-time financial donation is to click the link below or send a check with my name in the memo line to the address below.

I am deeply grateful for your encouragement and friendship.

With gratitude,

Layne
