Dear family and friends, 

Scott and I have been invited to join a small team being sent out by the mission organization, Exodus 17, tasked with building two small dry dwelling units in Nicaragua in the morning, as well as participate in a Bible Club for children in the afternoons. This ministry to Nicaragua will be taking place October 17 to 24, 2026.

When Scott first heard about this opportunity, he immediately felt that this was a ministry that we could do together. It was the perfect marriage between his skills gained over the years as a do-it-yourself homeowner of a fixer-upper house as well as assisting with building and home repair projects with various friends and family over the years, and my years of training and experience in children’s ministry over the past 20 years at our home church, on three summer VBS outreaches in Cholula, Mexico, and most recently as part of the team leading two Child Evangelism Fellowship clubs in the Rockwood neighborhood for the past four years.

When I first heard about this opportunity, my first reaction was a bit more hesitant because I’m more sensitive to the heat the older I get, and Nicaragua is much warmer than Portland. However, we have both felt that retirement is a great opportunity to use the skills and talents God has given us to physically participate in the ministries and outreaches we couldn’t really pursue when we were actively employed.

After praying about it, and sitting in on a couple of meetings learning about Exodus 17, and the work they’ve been doing in Nicaragua over the past years, we have feltconfirmation that this is a ministry God can use us in to help further His Kingdom. With that in mind, we are now working on building a team of prayer warriors to lift us up and support us in prayer as we make preparations for the trip, while we’re travelling and once we are actively there working. We are sending this letter to you because you have loved us and been involved in our lives over the years, and we would covet your support of us as we join this team. If you felt led to participate financially, we would appreciate that too, but being willing to pray for us, is much more essential to us. Thank you!
